Well tonight was definitely one of the top performance experiences of my life. I will back up a little and remind you I spent last week at ZANIES in Chicago and I finished up on Saturday night so last night and tonight I was up at IMPROV OLYMPIC watching Impov shows. Seeing some friends like Jake Schneider, Allison Bills, making new friends like Emily and Lisa.
On Monday at IO they do a long form show called THE ARMANDO DIAZ EXPERIENCE. The way it works is they have a guest storyteller who tells a story based on a question from the audience. The Storyteller (ST) will story for 3-4 minutes then the group which can number upto maybe 20 will do long form improv scenes based on whatever they picked up out out the story. After 8-10 minutes the story teller continues his story and it goes back and forth for 2 acts of about 40-45 minutes each.

Well I was quite scared because I know that sometimes stand-ups and Improvisors do not always mix well. Truth is I love IMPROV and Improvisors and it can be quite intimidating watching these brilliant performers, and I just did not want to mess up and do anything stupid.
The Question I got for the first act was (and I might be a little off) "Did you go to school to be a doctor?" and that led me all around the mulberry bush of my life in school, West Point and eventually becoming a Stand-up Comic.
The question I got for the Second act was "What kind of hair care products do you use?" This took me on a trip involving many products over many years in many different places.
The Actors were so smart and funny in how they took these stories and images and litterally flew with them.
I hope anyone who ever travels to Chicago will make a point of going to some shows at THE IMPROV OLYMPIC. Great Great Stuff. www.ioimprov.com
